A viral Instagram reel has circulated on social media, showing an individual’s experience attempting to purchase subsidised diesel in East Kalimantan (Kaltim). The video’s narration highlights the difficulty in obtaining subsidised diesel due to the implementation of Pertamina’s Fuel Card or Brizzi card system, now mandatory at several public fuel stations (SPBU) in the region. The footage depicts that bio-diesel purchases can no longer be made freely with standard cash payments; drivers must possess a registered special card to access subsidised diesel. This situation has left vehicle users struggling to obtain subsidised fuel. The video was uploaded by an account named @mim******. The policy aims to safeguard subsidised diesel availability for eligible citizens and sectors, particularly in East Kalimantan. “Regarding vehicles with license plates outside East Kalimantan (non-KT), the Fuel Card regulations should be understood as an administrative mechanism to ensure orderly distribution and prevent potential misuse,” said Roberth. After verification by the local transportation department (Dishub) and confirmation of eligibility, the Fuel Card can be collected at the relevant Dishub office. Roberth stressed that approved consumers receiving Fuel Cards are not limited to East Kalimantan-registered vehicles; in practice, vehicles with non-local plates can also obtain the card. During implementation, he added, there are on-the-ground dynamics, including the need to facilitate inter-regional vehicle mobility proportionately. “Therefore, the approach prioritises balancing distribution oversight with public service, while allowing further coordination if on-the-ground issues arise,” he explained. Meanwhile, for non-subsidised fuel, consumers do not require a Fuel Card and can purchase directly at SPBUs according to their segment. Pertamina has also urged travellers crossing regions or provinces, including those on tours or holidays, to plan their journeys more thoroughly. Additionally, the public can use non-subsidised fuel available at Pertamina stations.
