Viral Video of Student Beaten in Kebumen, Suspect Detained
A video of a student being beaten has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred in Kebumen Regency, Central Java. Police have detained the suspected perpetrator.
In a 34-second video, a student wearing a Scout uniform is seen being punched and kicked by a boy wearing only long trousers. Despite being struck several times, the student appeared not to fight back.
A report of the incident has been filed with the police. After investigation, it was found that the student was beaten behind a private vocational high school in Kutowinangun District, Kebumen Regency, on Friday (7/8) at around 10.00 WIB.
Kebumen Police Chief AKBP I Putu Krisna Purnama said his team detained the suspect on Saturday (15/8).
“The suspect has been brought to the police station and examination is still ongoing. We will also coordinate with the hospital for medical examination and a post-mortem report on the victim,” he said as reported by detikcom.
The suspect is still a student and a minor.
Meanwhile, the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Kebumen Police Criminal Investigation Department has examined the victim, the complainant, and a witness.
Investigators are also collecting evidence related to the incident. Police will then seek statements from witnesses believed to have knowledge of or recorded the event.
Based on the examination results and evidence, police will hold a case conference. I Putu Krisna Purnama also urged the public not to disseminate the recording and identities that could worsen the victim’s condition, especially since the incident involves minors.
“We will continue to handle the case according to procedure and with due regard to the provisions applicable to children,” he added.
