Viral Video of Several Central Java DPRD Members Smoking During Meeting

A viral video shows several members of the Central Java Provincial DPRD smoking during a meeting in an air-conditioned room at the DPRD building. The Chairman of the Central Java DPRD will issue a reprimand.

The video went viral on social media after being uploaded by the Instagram account @beritasemaranghariini. In the video, several male DPRD members can be seen smoking in the middle of the meeting.

When contacted for confirmation, Central Java DPRD Chairman Sumanto confirmed the report. He stated that smoking is indeed not allowed during meetings in air-conditioned rooms.

“In the AC room, the plenary session isn’t allowed to have smoking. There are specific places for that,” Sumanto said when met by reporters at Gradhika Bhakti Praja, Semarang, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

Sumanto suspects that the incident in the viral video occurred a long time ago. Nevertheless, his side will reprimand the DPRD members to prevent smoking in air-conditioned meeting rooms.

“Those who were smoking, we’ll reprimand them to keep things orderly, as there are designated smoking areas. Maybe (the video) is old. So we’ll straighten it out,” he said.

“(The rule) inside rooms, smoking is not allowed; there will be an evaluation,” he continued.
