Viral Video of Same-Sex Kissing Between Students Prompts PNJ Student Union to Demand Action

A video depicting an act of indecency involving two same-sex students kissing within the Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ) campus has gone viral on social media. In response to the incident, the PNJ Student Executive Board (BEM) has issued a formal statement regarding the case.

As seen in the footage circulating on social media on Tuesday (2/6/202lar), two men were captured kissing. The person recording the video filmed the act from within a room. Other clips show the two men being confronted by fellow students, who demanded to know their identities.

BEM PNJ has stated that this act of indecency must be treated with seriousness. “Responding to the issue currently developing within the campus environment, BEM PNJ emphasises that every form of violation against norms, regulations, codes of ethics, and applicable provisions within the campus environment must be addressed seriously and in accordance with the prevailing mechanisms,” stated the official statement signed by the Chairman of BEM PNJ, Muhammad Farrel Adyatma Izaaz.

The statement was also shared via the @bempnj Instagram account. In the caption, the Student Union expressed the view that the primary focus in addressing such issues should be on the actions and behaviours performed, rather than on assumptions, opinions, or an individual’s personal identity.

“Therefore, if actions leading to indecency in public spaces, harassment, bullying, or other forms of violations are discovered, they must be followed up according to the applicable rules,” the statement explained.

BEM PNJ has called upon all students to monitor the handling of this case and to demand transparency from the institution to ensure a precedent of firm and fair rule enforcement. Furthermore, the Student Union urged the entire academic community to maintain ethics, norms, and order within campus life to create a conducive, safe, and dignified academic environment.
