Viral Video of Police Intercepting Car on Daan Mogot in West Jakarta: Full Explanation and Chronology
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A video of a group of masked men intercepting a car on Jalan Daan Mogot, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon (18/4/2026) went viral on social media, drawing public scrutiny.
Police have provided an explanation and revealed the full chronology of the incident.
Grogol Petamburan Police Sector Chief AKP Reza Aditya confirmed that the men captured in the viral video were police officers.
Reza explained that the interception was carried out after receiving a report from the public regarding suspected criminal activity at the location.
“So, why did it happen like that? Because our personnel received a report from a member of the public whose identity we won’t disclose, suspecting a drug transaction or some rule-breaking activity,” he said.
Based on that report, officers on the ground attempted to stop the suspicious vehicle for inspection and search.
“That’s why we conducted a search of the car. But what happened was that the person who uploaded the video was uncooperative. He wasn’t cooperative and instead went viral with the video,” Reza said.
Because the driver refused to be inspected and considering the situation inside the car, including the presence of a minor, the officers eventually released the vehicle.
Nevertheless, the police state that the case is not yet closed.
Currently, police are still trying to identify the driver for clarification.
Regarding the officers’ actions, which some netizens deemed forceful, Reza described it as a form of vigilance by field personnel.
“Well, our personnel also have to anticipate things like that. Because you know, the potential danger from inside the car, so we anticipate such matters,” he stated.
