Management of Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi has followed up on a viral video capturing a person smoking in the vicinity of petrol station 73.902.01 on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan in Makassar, South Sulawesi. “It has been addressed firmly. We remind that all activities in the petrol station environment must adhere to the applicable HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment) standards,” stated Area Manager for Communication, Relations and CSR at Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi, Lilik Hardiyanto, in Makassar on Monday. From the field chronology, a customer was filling up fuel at the station on Sunday, 29 March. Shortly after, the individual left the filling area to go to the toilet. Upon finishing, they went to the sink area and then smoked in the station premises. Regarding the incident, Lilik emphasised that safety aspects are the top priority in all operations at petrol stations, including for all parties present in the area. “The petrol station area is a high-risk zone, so all parties, whether operators, partners, or visitors, are required to comply with safety provisions, including the no-smoking rule throughout the petrol station area,” he stressed. He added that supervision of compliance with safety procedures is being strengthened as part of efforts to maintain collective security. “Station managers are encouraged to enhance supervision and ensure that all parties active in the petrol station area understand and implement safety standards with discipline,” he said. In response to the incident, Sales Branch Manager for Sulsel I Fuel, Muhammad Yoga Prabowo, stated that follow-up actions have been taken to ensure such events do not recur. “The station has issued a reprimand to the involved tenant personnel. Pertamina is also conducting further investigation, and if any operational violations are found, sanctions will be imposed in accordance with applicable rules,” he affirmed. His side reiterated that compliance with safety standards is a shared responsibility. Every violation, no matter how small, has the potential to cause greater risks if not handled firmly and consistently. As part of strengthening supervision, Pertamina continues to promote increased awareness of safety aspects at all petrol stations, including through socialisation, routine briefings, and periodic evaluations of field operations.
