A short video showing a patient’s family angrily confronting a healthcare worker (nakes) at Bebandem Health Centre in Karangasem has gone viral on social media. The cause was the family’s inability to make payment using QRIS.

In the video, two men can be heard speaking in an emotional tone because they could not make the payment. The man also threatened to viralise the healthcare worker on social media. The video is believed to have been taken on the night of pengerupukan.

“How can the world be so modern and you can’t pay with QRIS? Even a Madura stall can accept QRIS payment,” he said in the video.

Responding to the matter, the Head of Bebandem Health Centre, dr. I Made Sudarba, confirmed that the viral video incident occurred at Bebandem Health Centre. He regretted the actions because they involved threatening the healthcare worker.

“It should have been discussed properly first, no need to get angry. Because payment via QRIS is not yet available, but we already have plans to use it in the future,” said Sudarba, when confirmed on Saturday (21/3/2026).

He explained that the incident began when a patient arrived with his child for treatment at Bebandem Health Centre at night, because the child was weak after watching ogoh-ogoh. After examination, the child was weak, suspected due to hunger. Because he had only eaten once in the morning.

During the administration for payment, the on-duty staff asked if the person had a BPJS card or something else. However, the person admitted he did not bring it and stated that he was seeking treatment through the general route.

When about to pay Rp 40 thousand, the family claimed they had no cash, so the payment process would be done using QRIS. However, the health centre did not yet have QRIS for the treatment payment process. After that, tension arose until the video went viral.

However, the viral video case has now ended peacefully. Because the patient’s family who made the video has apologised and admitted their mistake.
