A video showing murky water resembling waste flowing swiftly into Segara Ayu Beach in Sanur Village, Denpasar, has gone viral on social media. The discoloured water was seen gushing directly into the sea.

The Denpasar City Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR) immediately inspected the site. Officers from PUPR, along with related agencies and village officials, conducted digging at the point where the water emerged.

“That is correct, we have checked and inspected the location directly,” said Ketut Ngurah Artha Jaya, Head of the Water Resources Division at Denpasar PUPR.

Ngurah Artha explained that the initial gush of water was indeed heavy and dark. However, shortly afterwards, clean and odourless water began to flow. Preliminary findings suggest the murky water was the result of long-standing sediment deposits inside the channel.

“It is suspected that the final disposal outlet was temporarily blocked by beach sand. When heavy rain occurred, the water pressure pushed out the blockage. Due to that force, the water burst out heavily and appeared murky, as seen in the video,” he elaborated.

Denpasar PUPR, together with the Denpasar Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the Bali-Penida River Basin Agency (BWS), and local village authorities, have proposed a more detailed investigation. A follow-up inspection is scheduled for Monday morning, 22 June 2026.

“Yes, tomorrow morning we will go directly to the location. Heavy equipment is being prepared to excavate the area around the water flow. We will confirm the results tomorrow,” Ngurah Artha stated.
