A group of motorcyclists who allegedly damaged a barrier on the Casablanca Non-Toll Elevated Road (JLNT) in South Jakarta have sparked a police investigation after footage of their actions went viral on social media.

In the video circulating online on Monday (23 February), one of the riders can be seen burning through the rope securing the JLNT Casablanca barrier. Once the barrier was opened, the group of motorcyclists swarmed onto the elevated road.

“Time for people to enjoy performing,” read the caption on the video.

The motorcyclists were seen wearing black hoodies bearing slogans such as ‘Youth Style’, ‘Confused’, and ‘Stressed’. Most of the group had also removed the number plates from their vehicles.

The stunt was reportedly carried out solely to create social media content. The group rode in convoy along the road, with several members seen without number plates or helmets.

Motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from using the JLNT Casablanca, which is designated exclusively for four-wheeled vehicles or larger, with signage clearly posted at the site.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate chief Commissioner Komarudin confirmed that authorities are already acting on the information. The Traffic Directorate is coordinating with the General Criminal Investigation Directorate to investigate the motorcyclists.

“We are looking into it thoroughly. We have also involved the Criminal Investigation unit,” Komarudin said when contacted on Monday.

Komarudin stated that police would take action against those involved, as their actions posed a danger to public safety. The Criminal Investigation Directorate is examining potential criminal damage charges.

“It is not only dangerous — we are also investigating the criminal damage aspect,” he said.
