Viral Video of Man Damaging Car Mirror and Wiper in North Jakarta Under Police Investigation
A video showing a man damaging a car on a road in the Sunter area of Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, has gone viral on social media. Police are investigating the street altercation.
The Head of Public Relations for the North Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Maryati Jonggi, stated that officers from the Tanjung Priok Police have visited the crime scene. Police are deepening the investigation by taking statements from witnesses at the location.
“Regarding the viral incident, the Tanjung Priok Police Criminal Investigation Unit has conducted a scene check,” Iptu Jonggi said when contacted on Thursday (9/7/2026).
In the viral video, a man can be seen repeatedly striking the victim’s car wing mirror. The mirror appeared damaged from the blows delivered by the man, who was wearing a black shirt and jeans.
“Investigations are currently underway regarding both the victim and the perpetrator,” she said.
Besides the damaged mirror, the video also shows the car’s windscreen wipers were broken, allegedly due to the perpetrator’s rampage. Police are urging the victim to file an official report to aid the investigation and clarify the case.
“The victim has not yet filed a report. Yes, the victim has been advised to report it,” she stated.
The altercation was allegedly triggered by the victim and the perpetrator’s cars jostling for position on the road. Police are appealing to road users not to let emotions get the better of them, which can lead to criminal acts, and to settle disputes at the nearest police station instead.
“We urge all road users to remain calm and not be provoked by emotions in the event of a dispute or incident on the road. Avoid acts of vandalism, violence, or taking the law into your own hands,” he appealed.
“If a problem occurs, resolve it with a cool head and report it through the 110 police service or visit the nearest police station so that it can be handled according to the applicable legal provisions,” he added.
