Viral Video of Loud Sound Systems and Provocative Dancers at Jombang Ramadan Street Event
A sahur on the road (SOTR) event in Jombang has gone viral after featuring numerous loud mobile sound systems, known locally as “sound horeg,” and provocative dancers. It has since emerged that the SOTR event was held without any official permit.
The event was posted across several TikTok accounts, showing thousands of people parading on motorcycles alongside the mobile sound systems. They traversed village roads and rice paddies from the early hours of darkness through to daylight.
Hengki, the Secretary of Jatibanjar Village in Ploso Subdistrict, confirmed that the SOTR with the loud sound systems took place on the connecting road between his village and Sumbergondang Village in Kabuh Subdistrict on Sunday morning (22 February). He stressed that the Jatibanjar village administration did not organise the event.
“The provocative dancing should not have been there — it is the fasting month and such behaviour is simply inappropriate,” he said.
Meanwhile, the owner of Aprelia Production, Aprelia, explained that more than ten mobile sound systems enlivened the SOTR in Jatibanjar Village, including her own. The operators paraded from their respective home bases to the gathering point.
“Nobody hired them. The sound system owners in Jombang frequently do sahur on the road events. They just go around and then gathered at that spot,” she explained.
Ploso Subdistrict Police Chief Senior Commissioner Achmad Chairuddin spoke publicly on the matter, stating that the SOTR was held without a permit from either the police or the local village government.
“It was without a permit — we did not authorise it either. Even the village head of Jatibanjar was unaware; he only found out from residents,” he said.
