Viral Video of Jember Legislator Smoking During Meeting, DPRD Chairman Assures Action Will Be Taken

Based on information gathered from an Instagram post, the incident occurred on Monday (11/5/2026) during a Commission D DPRD Jember meeting. The meeting agenda focused on discussing healthcare services in Jember Regency. The meeting was attended by several parties, including the Jember Regency Health Department, BPJS Kesehatan, and all heads of puskesmas across Jember Regency. In the circulating video, a council member is seen intently staring at his phone screen and moving his fingers as if playing a game. He is also seen holding a cigarette in the formal indoor forum. Jember DPRD Chairman Ahmad Halim responded to the actions of one of the Jember DPRD members. Halim assured that the institution would issue a warning and sanctions. “First, on behalf of the DPRD leadership, we convey our apologies. We will process this because it concerns the ethics of the DPRD institution,” said Halim as quoted by detikJatim on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
