Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — A video showing the Finance Minister asking people to register for business capital assistance has gone viral.

The Public Information and Documentation Management Officer Team of the Ministry of Finance (PPID Kemenkeu) stated that the circulating video is false news or a hoax. The Ministry of Finance said that the fake video was created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, namely deepfake.

“The public is expected to be vigilant against the spread of videos and fake news in the name of Finance Minister Purbaya,” wrote the Instagram account @ppid.kemenkeu, Sunday (17/5/2026).

Previously, a hoax video featuring Purbaya had also circulated. In the fake video, Purbaya stated that he had inaugurated a Rp 900 billion grant program and invited people to register immediately.

The hoaxes involving Finance Minister Purbaya have become increasingly common lately. Therefore, the Ministry of Finance appeals to the public to report any information about state finances or the Ministry of Finance that is suspected of being a hoax or fraud.

The public can report it through the Kemenkeu PRIME service contact center via telephone 134, email [email protected], or the “Contact Us” menu on the website www.kemenkeu.go.id.
