Viral Video of Domestic Worker Abused by Employer in Sunter; Police Say Incident Occurred in 2023
A case involving an employer assaulting a domestic worker (ART) in Sunter Agung, Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta, has drawn widespread attention. Police have stated that the viral video of the assault actually occurred in 2023.
“Investigators have examined the scene and the incident occurred three years ago, around February 2023,” said First Inspector Ni Luh Sri Arsini, Head of the Women and Child Protection and Human Trafficking Division (PPA/PPO) of the North Jakarta Police, as reported by Antara on Monday, 2 March 2026.
She identified the victim as a 57-year-old woman with initials S who worked at the home of the perpetrator with initials HW (42). At the time, the perpetrator HW was cleaning a prayer space in his residence when the victim soiled the area, leading to a misunderstanding between the two.
“The perpetrator then struck and kicked the victim in the back,” said Sri.
After committing the assault against his domestic worker, perpetrator HW subsequently became remorseful and immediately apologised. According to Sri, after the perpetrator sought forgiveness, the victim immediately forgave him, and the two reconciled.
“Not long after the incident, they reconciled with each other,” explained Sri.
She noted that the victim did not wish to file a police report because she continues to work at the perpetrator’s residence. Despite their reconciliation, police are still investigating the case.
“We are continuing our investigation into this case,” said Sri.
Currently, Sri revealed that the victim is at the Women and Child Protection office with investigators for psychological recovery. She stated that the perpetrator HW is still being questioned and maintains witness status in the investigation.
