Viral Video of Corruption Convict Hanging Out at Café with Kendari Detention Officers

A video of an inmate in an illegal mining case, Supriadi, along with officers from the Kendari Detention Centre in Southeast Sulawesi, at a coffee shop has circulated on social media. The viral video has drawn public attention because the inmate was outside the detention facility. The Kendari Detention Centre explained that Supriadi was escorted out to attend a judicial review hearing (PK) at the Kendari District Court on Tuesday (14/4). “That was in accordance with procedure. Supriadi had a court schedule and was accompanied by our officers,” said Acting Head of Kendari Detention Centre, La Ode Mustakim, on Wednesday (15/4). In the video, Supriadi is seen walking to a coffee shop with one of the Kendari Detention Centre officers after the PK hearing. Nevertheless, Mustakim admitted he had not received any report regarding Supriadi’s activities after the hearing. “All activities outside the detention centre should be reported through the chain of command,” he stated. In the meantime, Mustakim said his side had summoned and examined the officer who escorted Supriadi. “This examination is being conducted to investigate whether there were any procedural violations in escorting the inmate,” he explained. Mustakim emphasised that they would take firm action if any violations were found in the escorting process for Supriadi. “If the examination results find any violations, we will not hesitate to impose sanctions in accordance with the rules,” he said.
