Viral Video of Corruption Convict at Coffee Shop: Directorate General of Corrections to Investigate Officers
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen Pas) has responded to the social media buzz surrounding a video of a prisoner convicted in a mining corruption case at a coffee shop in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
Deputy Head of the Cooperation Sub-Directorate of Ditjen Pas, Rika Aprianti, stated that a joint team from Ditjen Pas Southeast Sulawesi is examining the prisoner and the officers supervising him during the incident.
“Regarding the incident, an examination is being conducted by the joint team of the Internal Compliance Operational Unit (Sat Ops Patnal) of the Directorate General of Corrections and the Regional Office of Ditjen Pas Southeast Sulawesi, involving all related parties, both the inmate and the officers,” Rika said in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
Rika added that if violations are proven, the prisoner and officers will face sanctions and penalties in accordance with applicable regulations.
“And if violations are proven, action will be taken according to the prevailing regulations, up to dismissal from position,” she said.
Previously reported, the prisoner in the mining corruption case was caught meeting several people at a coffee shop on Jalan Abunawas, Bende Ward, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
The prisoner is SP, the former Head of the Kolaka Harbour Master.
He is currently serving a sentence at the Class II A Detention Centre in Kendari, after being sentenced to five years in prison by the Kendari Corruption Court at the District Court.
“So, the individual was out due to a summons to attend a judicial review hearing. He was summoned by the Kendari District Court to attend the hearing today and was escorted by our officers at 09:00 WITA this morning,” said Mustakim.
