Viral Video: Excavator Crashes Through Wedding Party Tent in Tempel, Sleman
A video of an excavator, or heavy machinery, passing through a wedding tent has gone viral on social media. The incident is known to have occurred in the Padukuhan Onggojayan area, Banyurejo, Tempel, Sleman. What is the story behind it?
The excavator video became viral after being uploaded by various social media accounts, such as Instagram @yanofriza. It is mentioned that the excavator passing through the wedding tent was heading to work on the toll road project.
In the circulating video, a number of people are seen sitting under the tent and suddenly witnessing the heavy machinery entering the tent. It is also stated that the location of the incident was in Magelang, but after investigation, the event took place in Sleman.
“Detik-Detik Excavator Melintas Ditengah Acara Hajatan Pernikahan di Bligo, kecamatan Ngluwar,Magelang (perbatasan dg kecamatan Tempel, kab Sleman DIY). Beberapa Orang yang Hadir Dalam Acara Pernikahan Tersebut Tampak Membantu Mengarahkan Operator, Agar Excavator yang Akan Mengerjakan Pembangunan Proyek Jalan Tol Yogyakarta - Magelang - Bawen Bisa Lewat Menuju Lokasi Proyek.,” reads the caption in the video as seen by detikJogja, Tuesday (14/4/2026).
Regarding the incident, Jagabaya of Kalurahan Banyurejo, Irwan Darmanta, said the event of the excavator passing between the wedding tents occurred on Friday (10/4) last week.
“That incident happened on Friday in Onggojayan, near the elementary school there was a wedding, and to the north, the community was demolishing a mosque for renovation,” said Irwan when contacted by reporters, Tuesday (14/4/2026).
He explained that the mosque renovation process required heavy equipment. So, the villagers asked for help from the toll authority to assist in the demolition of Masjid Al Falah, which is not far from the wedding location.
“They needed heavy equipment, if I’m not mistaken, that (excavator) was borrowed from the toll project,” he said.
Irwan said the wedding tent was indeed set up over the main road, which is the only access for the heavy machinery to pass. Nevertheless, he emphasised that vehicles could pass through the road covered by the tent, although they had to be careful while doing so.
“Traffic is safe, on Friday and Saturday the road was still open for traffic. The tent was on the road. On Saturday, the road was still open for gravel trucks to pass,” he stated.
As far as he knows, the peak of the wedding event took place on Sunday, and during the event, traffic was temporarily closed.
“The event was on Sunday, that’s when it was closed. So on Friday and Saturday, the road was still open. Coincidentally, on Friday they needed heavy equipment to renovate the mosque, which indeed needed renovation,” he explained.
He stated that before and after the event, there were no problems, and there was already an agreement among the villagers.
“It was all coincidental, the tent was up, and the backhoe needed to pass. The community wanted the mosque construction to proceed, and the wedding also went ahead. But there were no issues, everything could proceed. On Friday and Saturday, the road was still open,” he concluded.
