Viral Video: Car Driving Against Traffic Collides with Pedestrians in Gunung Sahari, Driver Arrested

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A black Toyota Calya was filmed driving against traffic and colliding with several pedestrians and vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026). The incident was captured in a video taken by a resident and has since gone viral on social media.

The Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, confirmed the incident involving the reckless driver of the car with license plate number D 1640 AHB. The incident occurred at approximately 17:15 WIB, when traffic was heavy. As a result, the car collided with several other road users.

“That’s right, today at approximately 17:15 WIB, while traffic police officers were directing traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari, they saw a black Toyota Calya driving recklessly,” he said on Wednesday evening.

According to him, the police, along with residents, pursued the car that was driving against traffic. He stated that the driver, identified as a man with the initials HM (24 years old), was arrested after his car became stuck in traffic and was blocked by a patrol car from behind. There was also one woman in the car.

From the viral video circulating on social media, the car can be seen colliding with several other vehicles. Some residents became angry and smashed the car’s windows because the driver refused to stop.
