Viral: Tangsel Residents Frustrated After Paying PBB in Full but Being Billed Again
South Tangerang, Kompas.com — A post by a resident on the social media platform Threads regarding a Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2) bill in South Tangerang City has gone viral after it was noted to include old arrears that the resident claims to have already paid.
The resident stated that they received a Tax Due Notice (SPPT) listing arrears for five years, despite having paid them.
“After checking with the payment proof I have, everything has been settled,” wrote the account owner on Friday (10/4/2026).
According to him, similar cases have been experienced by other residents.
“After checking with my neighbours, they all also have bills for arrears from previous years, averaging five years,” he wrote.
In the post, he suspected irregularities in tax data management.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) of South Tangerang City, Eki Herdiana, explained the reason why old PBB-P2 arrears still appear in the SPPT received by residents.
He explained that the appearance of these arrears is related to old receivable data that is still recorded in the system.
According to him, some of these receivables are data whose management was transferred from the central government to the regional government since 2014.
This receivable data remains stored in the PBB-P2 database and will continue to appear until payment or deletion is carried out in accordance with regulations.
“It remains recorded in the PBB-P2 database until the receivable is paid or until the receivable is deleted,” said Eki when confirmed via WhatsApp on Friday.
Eki assured that the city government is currently conducting massive data collection to improve the quality of tax data, from registration, collection, billing, to verification of receivables for each tax object.
For residents who have paid PBB-P2 but still receive bills, Eki advised them to report it by attaching proof of payment.
“We invite taxpayers to send photos of proof of payment for recording payment via the official Bapenda WhatsApp or come directly to the Bapenda Tangsel office,” he explained.
The data collection is being carried out to ensure data accuracy and provide certainty for taxpayers.
“We are conducting massive data collection for tax data quality improvement,” he said.
