Viral: Several Motorcyclists Fall Due to Leachate Drips in Bantargebang

Several motorcyclists fell on Jalan Siliwangi Pangkalan 5, Bantargebang, Bekasi City. The incident was allegedly caused by a slippery road surface resulting from leachate drips from rubbish trucks travelling to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (TPST). The incident went viral on social media. In a circulating video seen on Wednesday (5/8/2026), a motorcyclist wearing a blue raincoat is seen falling. Shortly afterwards, two motorcyclists behind also fell. From the opposite direction, two other motorcyclists experienced a similar fate. Local residents then assisted the fallen motorcyclists. Residents were also seen urging other road users to be careful. When confirmed, Kompol Gefri Agitia, Head of the Traffic Unit at the Bekasi City Metro Police, explained that the incident occurred on Tuesday (4/8) evening. Based on witness statements, there were many leachate drips at the location from rubbish trucks mixed with rainwater. “After the rain and leachate drips from rubbish trucks passing through the area, the road became slippery,” Gefri said when confirmed on Wednesday (5/8/2026). Gefri confirmed there was no oil spill at the location, which had been widely rumoured as the cause of the motorcyclists falling. He stressed that the motorcyclists fell due to the slippery road caused by leachate drips mixed with rainwater. “It was not caused by oil spilled on the road. Rather, it was due to leachate drips or rubbish water from rubbish trucks heading to the Bantargebang TPST and light rain which made the road slippery,” he stated. He said that at the time, residents immediately reported the matter to officers. His team then coordinated with the Bantargebang TPST and the fire department to clean the road. “The TPST, assisted by the fire department, cleaned the road by spraying water, and as of now, no more two-wheeled vehicles have fallen,” he added.
