A rogue senior professor at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) has gone viral for allegedly committing sexual harassment against a foreign female student on an exchange programme. Unpad Rector, Arief Sjamsulaksan Kartasasmita, has spoken out on the matter. Arief expressed deep concern over the allegations. He emphasised that Unpad does not tolerate any form of violence, including sexual violence, within the campus environment. “As a higher education institution, Unpad is committed to upholding values of integrity, security, and protection for the entire academic community. Every allegation of violation will be followed up seriously and in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Arief, as quoted by detikJabar on Thursday (16/4/2026). In response to this case, Unpad has conducted an initial investigation. Arief stated that the alleged involved lecturer has been temporarily deactivated from all academic activities. “After receiving the complete report on the same day, Unpad immediately took firm steps by temporarily deactivating the lecturer in question from all academic activities,” he explained. Subsequently, Unpad is implementing handling procedures in accordance with applicable rules, including forming an investigation team. This process involves Unpad’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS) as well as faculty senate elements to ensure the investigation is objective and thorough. In his statement, Arief affirmed that if the violation is proven, the campus will impose sanctions in accordance with statutory regulations. “Unpad will consistently carry out the process of proof and enforcement of violence in accordance with the law, and prioritise the interests and safety of the victim. This applies to all Unpad citizens, including lecturers, students, and educational staff,” he clarified.
