Viral Post Claims SMAN 2 Bantul Alumni Bullied into Mental Illness, Education Authorities Intervene
A post narrating an alumnus of SMAN 2 Bantul experiencing bullying to the point of developing a mental disorder after graduating has drawn widespread attention on social media. In response, the Bantul Secondary Education Office (Balai Dikmen) visited the school today.
The post was uploaded by the Threads account @gh05tx0 two days ago. The individual also uploaded a medical certificate with the doctor’s name and hospital stamp blurred. The medical certificate stated the account holder was undergoing outpatient treatment, with the diagnosis column listing several mental disorders ranging from depression to bipolar disorder.
“I am a graduate of SMA Negeri 2 Bantul, and do you know what I got after I graduated? That’s right, according to my medical record photo, I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MENTAL ILLNESS AFTER GRADUATING,” the Threads account @gh05tx0 stated.
The account holder claimed to have been accused of a crime by a teacher and felt slandered. “I was slandered for committing a crime at school by my own homeroom teacher and guidance counsellor, even though I was the one who uncovered the crime. Ironically, I was made the scapegoat by those bastard teachers, even though I was the hero. Worse, I was slandered in a parents’ meeting without my knowledge. The result? I was shunned by my friends because their parents thought I was a bad child, even though I have never once smoked, drank, etc. Ironically, children at school who liked to play online gambling and drink alcohol were left alone by the guidance counsellor,” the account continued.
As of midday today, the post had received 6,600 likes, 1,500 comments, and had been shared approximately 2,400 times. The trigger for the alleged bullying case is suspected to be related to a semester exam that was once compromised by students.
detikJogja visited SMAN 2 Bantul to seek clarification regarding the post. At the time, the school leadership was in a meeting with the Bantul Secondary Education Office, but the school declined to disclose details of the meeting agenda.
The Head of the Bantul Secondary Education Office, Ismunardi, declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting at SMAN 2 Bantul, deferring all statements to the school. “Just ask the school later. The school will provide the statement,” Ismunardi said briefly before leaving the media at the location. Meanwhile, the Head of SMAN 2 Bantul, Isti Fatimah, and the Vice Principal for Student Affairs, Suwondo, also refused to provide any statement.
The Acting Head of the Yogyakarta Special Region Education, Youth, and Sports Office acknowledged awareness of the incident and said relevant parties are following up. “The account is anonymous, so we don’t know yet. We respect whoever the complainant is, but we don’t yet know the truth or the background,” he said. Consequently, the school and the Bantul Secondary Education Office are currently coordinating to resolve the issues. “We are working on and consolidating the case. So it is still in process, let’s wait for the results first,” he stated.
