Viral Petrol Station on Rooftop, Pertamina Provides Explanation

A video showing a Pertamina fuel filling station (SPBU) on top of a building has gone viral on social media. The SPBU is suspected to be located in the Bekasi area, West Java. The viral video depicts a facility resembling a fuel filling station on top of the building. This is certainly unusual because petrol station dispensers are generally built on the ground surface. Access to this SPBU is quite limited, thus inviting questions. In contrast, the bottom part of the building shows a conventional SPBU operating as usual. This area appears crowded with four-wheeled vehicles queuing to refuel. Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Robert MV Dumatubun, stated that the asset is a company-owned company-operated (COCO) SPBU, or one where the entire ownership and operations are managed directly by Pertamina through its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Retail. “This belongs to Pertamina at the COCO SPBU,” said Robert to detikcom on Tuesday (24/3/2026), as reported by detikFinance. According to Robert, the rooftop SPBU is an Energy Station Academy (ESA) owned by Pertamina Retail, which functions to train prospective operators. The dispensers at this SPBU can function, but not to serve consumers. “If asked whether it functions, yes it can function, but not to serve consumers, but for training prospective operators,” explained Robert.
