Viral Patient Family Complaints About RSUD Giri Emas Service, Regent Responds

A video showing a patient’s family complaining about the service at the Giri Emas Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Buleleng has gone viral on social media. The video, uploaded to a Facebook account, features a relative of an inpatient detailing several problems experienced during their treatment, despite the patient’s mother having been hospitalised for five days. “It’s been five days of hospitalisation. The oxygen suddenly ran out, they said the central supply was empty,” the family member stated in the video. The family also questioned the availability of specialist doctors handling the patient, particularly a lung specialist. “Why is there no clear doctor handling the lung disease, no specialist doctor,” he complained. The grievances also targeted basic hospital services, revealing that medication meant to be given at mealtimes was not received until they inquired directly with the staff. They also highlighted the minimal facilities in the treatment room, including the availability of bed sheets.

Buleleng Regent Nyoman Sutjidra stated he had not yet received an official report regarding the alleged service issues at RSUD Giri Emas but confirmed he would immediately verify the information. “I haven’t received a report on that yet. I will check it again later,” Sutjidra said. Responding to the complaint about the oxygen supply running out, the Regent, who holds a degree as an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist, asserted that the hospital should have reserves so that patient services are not disrupted. “If the oxygen runs out, there should be a reserve. We will call the department and the hospital director later,” Sutjidra said. Sutjidra acknowledged that RSUD Giri Emas still faces various limitations, especially regarding medical equipment, supporting facilities, and the availability of specialist medical personnel. He explained that comprehensive improvements cannot be carried out yet due to the region’s limited fiscal capacity. “Many medical devices need to be updated, not only at RSUD Giri Emas. We need revitalisation, there is still much to be done. Amidst limited fiscal capacity, we are working on it gradually according to the priority scale,” Sutjidra explained. The Buleleng Regency Government will catalogue all medical equipment that is still fit for use and those that need replacement before carrying out phased procurement. Sutjidra also acknowledged that the facilities and services at RSUD Giri Emas are not yet capable of handling all medical cases, expressing hope that urgent patients can be referred to hospitals with more complete specialist doctors and facilities.
