Viral Moment: Jokowi Joins Residents for Yoga Session in Front of His Home
The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokov), was seen performing yoga in front of his residence in Solo, Central Java. He was not alone, as Jokowi joined a local wellness community from Solo to participate in the exercise.
From a video uploaded and gone viral on TikTok, Jokowi appeared relaxed, wearing a white jacket, matching trousers, and a hat of the same colour. Jokowi was seen smiling as he was welcomed by 25 yoga participants at the event.
As the session commenced, Joko Widodo was seen sitting cross-legged on a brown mat. He placed both hands on his thighs and closed his eyes. Jokowi was also observed breathing slowly and following the instructions of the yoga instructor guiding the activity.
“Try to inhale from within the abdomen. Feel it and exhale slowly,” said the yoga instructor.
President Jokowi revealed that he frequently practices yoga, noting that his body feels much fresher after the session. “Oh, I do it often (yoga); I feel fresh after yoga, very fresh,” he told members of the media following the session, as reported on YouTube.
On the other hand, a representative of the yoga organising committee, Devi Putri, admitted she did not expect Joko Widodo to be willing to join the community’s activity. However, she noted that the father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka only participated in the session for a short duration.
“This is a wellness community from Solo that focuses on presenting yoga activities related to wellness,” she said.
The yoga event was held in front of Jokowi’s private residence in Gang Kutai Utara 01, Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, Central Java, because of the area’s scenic environment.
“Why Gang Kutai? Because the place is lush, comfortable, and the air is still good in the morning,” she explained.
Regarding Jokowi’s participation in the yoga session last Sunday morning, Devi stated that his involvement happened spontaneously and was not planned beforehand.
“I just spontaneously invited Mr Jokowi to join. Alhamdulillah, I am very happy; I really didn’t expect it,” she added.
