Viral Meta AI Response Prompts Komdigi Warning That Chatbots Can Be Wrong
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) says chatbot responses are not always accurate and has urged the public to check them again.
“AI does not necessarily contain the truth. That is why human intervention is important: people need to check and recheck, and confirm information against verified sources, including verified online media and other media,” said Marroli Jeni Indarto, director of institutional communications partnerships and public relations at Komdigi, at the ministry’s office on Thursday (29 October 2026).
Human oversight is needed after using AI. This means checking the accuracy of information, including by verifying it against established media sources.
AI models should be used to help people think. Decisions and judgements must remain in human hands.
“The point is that AI may help us think, but decisions and judgements must remain with its users,” Marroli said.
He added that platforms themselves acknowledge that chatbots can make mistakes, meaning the possibility of inaccurate answers remains significant.
“AI can make mistakes. There is still a possibility that the platform will not be entirely accurate. That is why users need to check and recheck,” he said.
Previously, an answer from Meta AI circulated claiming that restrictions on content about demonstrations and forest and land fires (karhutla) had been imposed at Komdigi’s request. The claim went viral on social media, where many users shared it in connection with complaints that their content had been taken down or shadowbanned.
