Viral Man Who Damaged MINI Cooper Wing Mirror in Sunter Named Suspect
A man who went viral for going on a rampage and damaging a MINI Cooper in Sunter, North Jakarta, has been arrested by police. The perpetrator has now been named a suspect.
"His status is now a suspect," said AKP Nurul Farouq Fadillah, Panit V of the Sub-Directorate of Resmob at the Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate, on Saturday (11/7/2026).
For his actions, the perpetrator is charged under Article 521 of the Criminal Code, Law Number 1 of 2023, concerning vandalism, which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years and six months.
The incident occurred on Thursday (9/7). The perpetrator, who was driving a Toyota Calya, committed the vandalism because he thought his car had been sideswiped.
The perpetrator’s actions also went viral on social media. In a circulating video, the incident happened because the victim did not give way to the perpetrator when he tried to overtake. The perpetrator was seen breaking the wing mirror and hitting it against the victim’s car.
The Sub-Directorate of Resmob of the Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate then moved to investigate the viral incident. Within less than 24 hours, the perpetrator was arrested in the Kwitang area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (9/7) evening.
After being arrested by the police, the perpetrator admitted he was willing to compensate the MINI Cooper driver for the losses. However, the MINI Cooper driver refused and insisted that the perpetrator be processed according to the law.
"The perpetrator has asked to pay compensation, but the victim is still unwilling," he added.
During questioning at the police station, the perpetrator admitted to a momentary lapse of emotion. He was upset because the victim did not give him the right of way.
"Based on the examination results, the motive for the perpetrator’s actions was purely a momentary emotional outburst on the road. The suspect admitted he was upset because he felt the victim did not give him the right of way," wrote a statement from the Sub-Directorate of Resmob’s social media account.
