Viral: Man Allegedly LGBT Passed Soldier Selection, Here is the Indonesian Army's Response

A social media post has gone viral, alleging that a man suspected of being part of the LGBT community has passed the selection process to become an Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldier. The viral video, shared via the Instagram account @maluku_info, features a compilation of two men with a caption claiming they passed the TNI AD selection process while wearing official uniforms.

Netizens’ attention was drawn to the appearance, gestures, and interactions between the individuals in the video. In response to these allegations, the Head of the Indonesian Army’s Public Relations (Kadispenad), Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, stated that the military has conducted a comprehensive investigation into the video and photos.

“TNI AD has conducted a thorough in-depth study through examinations of the relevant parties, witnesses, mental and physical health checks, Mental Ideology examinations, and digital footprint tracing,” Donny said on Sunday, 7 June 2026.

Based on the results of these examinations, no evidence was found to suggest any romantic relationships, same-sex sexual relations, or involvement in LGBT behaviour as alleged in the social media narrative.

“The facts obtained show that the viral content originated from a post by a civilian who has a friendship with the soldier,” he added. “The post subsequently evolved into various public speculations and perceptions that do not align with the factual results of the investigation. Witness statements, health examination results, and digital footprint tracing consistently found no indications of deviant behaviour as alleged.”

Donny emphasised that the TNI AD, as an institution, will not tolerate any form of disciplinary or normative violations by its soldiers. However, in this specific case, the investigation found no violations related to LGBT behaviour or immoral acts. “Nevertheless, guidance will continue to be provided to increase prudence in social interactions and the use of social media,” he concluded.
