Viral Lubuk Pakam Video Serves as Reminder for PIP Account Activation Procedures
A video showing a student arriving at BNI Lubuk Pakam by ambulance and on a patient bed has become a reminder for families of Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) recipients to understand the stages of account activation before visiting a bank. Account activation is a process to ensure that the student has an active savings account. This stage differs from the disbursement of funds, as assistance can only be received after the student is designated as a recipient and the funds are transferred by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education according to a set schedule.
Referring to the Regulation of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Number 10 of 2025 concerning the Implementation Guidelines for the Program Indonesia Pintar for Primary and Secondary Education, students who already have an active account can be designated in a Decree of Grant and receive fund transfers. Meanwhile, students who do not yet have an active account need to complete the activation process first to be included in the subsequent distribution stages.
For 2026, the deadline for PIP account activation is until the end of December 2026. This timeframe provides an opportunity for families to prepare the required administrative documents. However, families are still advised not to delay until near the deadline to ensure sufficient time to complete any necessary document adjustments.
It is also important to understand that activation does not mean the funds can be withdrawn immediately on the same day. The timing of fund distribution follows the recipient designation process and the schedule determined by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. In the context of the viral video from Lubuk Pakam, the process the family was undergoing was related to PIP registration and account activation, not direct fund disbursement.
Before carrying out activation, students and families are advised to coordinate with the educational unit to confirm the required documents. These requirements generally include the recipient’s identity, a Family Card for certain education levels, an activation letter from the educational unit, and an account opening or activation form according to the distributing bank’s provisions. Complete documents are necessary for the bank to verify identity and data compatibility before the account is activated.
Account activation can be carried out directly by the recipient or their parents/guardians. Under certain conditions, such as when a student is unable to attend in person due to illness, disability, or residing in a hard-to-reach area, activation can be done through a power of attorney mechanism by the head of the educational unit. This authority can be substituted to a teacher, educational staff, or the head of another educational unit. Additionally, each distributing bank may have specific service procedures for customers with health conditions or special needs, so families are advised to contact the bank branch beforehand to arrange appropriate services.
Families also need to verify the student’s status, whether they are a prospective recipient, have been designated as a recipient, or if the funds have already been transferred to the account. This information can be obtained through the school, official channels of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, or the distributing bank. Understanding the difference between account activation, recipient designation, fund distribution, and withdrawal is crucial for families to navigate the PIP process correctly and ensure services are prepared safely and comfortably according to the student’s condition.
