Viral Long Queues of Garbage Trucks at Bantargebang TPST: Jakarta Environmental Agency Explains
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — Complaints from garbage truck drivers regarding long queues for unloading at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST) in Bekasi City have gone viral on social media.
The Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), Dudi Gardesi, stated that the footage of the truck queues is suspected to be an old video. “The area visible in the video is the Zone 3 loop, which has not been used as a parking area since March 2026. This is because the location is categorised as a critical zone following a landslide,” Dudi said in an official statement on Wednesday (20/05/2026).
According to him, improvements to the operational system, fleet queue management, and the strengthening of safety aspects are continuously being implemented to ensure waste services remain safe and smooth. “Post-landslide, the queue conditions for vehicles heading to the disposal points at TPST Bantargebang are currently relatively normal and controlled. Based on weighing data, the average waiting time for fleets is within the range of three to four hours,” Dudi added.
The Jakarta Environmental Agency is now implementing stricter operational regulations, prioritising safety principles. This includes limiting the waste trip quota to approximately 700 trips per day, divided into three shifts according to the capacity of parking areas deemed safe.
Furthermore, the number of active disposal points has been reduced from five to four to reduce the simultaneous tonnage load on the active platform of TPST Bantargebang. “This step is taken to minimise the risk of waste material shifting while ensuring the safety of drivers and personnel working in the field,” said Dudi.
Currently, technical teams and heavy machinery are continuously working on slope reinforcement, terracing arrangements, and the repair of supporting operational infrastructure. The Environmental Agency has also strengthened the traffic management system for fleets within the TPST Bantargebang area by stationing personnel at several points to regulate vehicle movement more precisely. These measures are intended to ensure that waiting times at weighbridges and disposal areas remain controlled. “For certain conditions, such as heavy rain, operations at disposal points will be temporarily suspended until conditions are declared safe,” Dudi concluded.
