Viral: Jokowi's Residence Labelled 'Solo Wailing Wall' on Google Maps
Jakarta, VIVA – “Solo Wailing Wall” has been trending across social media platforms. Based on screenshots from Google Maps searches uploaded and shared virally on social media, the “Solo Wailing Wall” was located at Jalan Kutai Utara No. 1, Sumber Sub-district, Banjarsari District, Surakarta City, Central Java, 57138.
Upon investigation, the address turned out to be the private residence of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), and his family. So how did Jokowi’s house come to be named the “Solo Wailing Wall”?
Under Google’s latest updates, users can name locations that have not yet been identified on the map. Beyond that, users can also edit the names of places that already have designations through the public contribution feature. Consequently, a location’s label can appear and change at any time depending on the verification process and platform policies. Users can employ the same name-editing button for places that already have names.
As of the time of writing, there has been no official statement regarding who was behind the renaming of Jokowi’s Solo residence to “Solo Wailing Wall”. However, the name had already been removed from Google Maps as of Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
Viral Trend Sparked by Citizen Videos
The term “Solo Wailing Wall” went viral on social media after several videos of public activity at Jokowi’s private residence circulated online. One recording showed a man standing in front of the gate holding the wall as though lamenting. The video was reposted on the Instagram account @lambeturah and went viral.
Additionally, a video was uploaded to the X account of Umar Hasibuan on 13 February. The one-minute-39-second clip showed members of the public sitting in front of Jokowi’s house. They could be seen sitting cross-legged whilst reciting tahlilan prayers.
“Astaghfirullah, the people who support Jokowi are getting stranger and stranger. What is the tahlilan for? And why in front of Jokowi’s house? What is going on with them?” the account wrote.
Public Reaction
The viral spread of the term “Solo Wailing Wall” has drawn extensive commentary from social media users. Jokowi’s residence in Solo has long been known as a frequent destination for visitors from across the country. Even after Jokowi concluded his presidential term in 2024, many citizens continued to visit in hopes of meeting the father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in person.
