Viral Incident of Private Car Charged Group 4 Toll Rate, Jasamarga Apologises

JAKARTA - A video uploaded by the Instagram account @dashcamindonesia went viral after showing an incident where an e-toll balance was insufficient when paying at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate. Despite the remaining balance on the card being Rp 293,497. In the video description, the driver claimed the incident occurred during the return flow from Plumbon to Jakarta via the Cipali and Cikampek toll roads. “When entering the Cikampek gate, the balance was insufficient even though there was still Rp 293,497 left,” it stated. Upon checking, the cause was an input error in the vehicle group at the Plumbon GT. The car, which should have been in Group 1, was instead read as Group 4, making the charged toll fee much more expensive. He mentioned that this situation could potentially harm road users who do not realise the toll fees, especially during the homecoming period. PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol confirmed the error. Vice President of Corporate Secretary & Legal at PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, Ria Marlinda Paallo, expressed apologies for the incident experienced by the road user. She explained that initially, the e-toll card was read as Group 4 with a fee of Rp 334,000 from Plumbon GT to Cikampek Utama GT. After validation, the data was corrected to Group 1 with the normal fee of Rp 162,000. The road user was ultimately charged the fee according to the correct vehicle group, with the remaining balance becoming Rp 131,497. Jasamarga stated that this incident will be used as material for evaluation to improve future services.
