Viral Incident of Dozens of Cars Having Tyres Deflated at Monas: Why?
JAKARTA - A video of a woman complaining about her car’s tyres being deflated while parked in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, went viral on social media on Monday (23/3/2026). Sourced from the Instagram account @jakartapusat.info, the woman, without showing her face, recorded the condition of several cars that had their tyres deflated. In the video, the cars were parked on the roadside and the main body of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, located on the southern side of the Monas area. More than three cars were visible with deflated tyres. The woman who recorded the video also delivered a verbal message to the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub). Responding to the video, the Head of Dishub DKI Jakarta, Syafrin Liputo, stated that the deflation was carried out as an enforcement action against illegal parking in Monas. “It was done so that residents do not park haphazardly. We have already conducted socialisation and urged residents not to park on the main road,” Syafrin said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday. “Officers are always directing vehicles to park at IRTI Monas or other locations with parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng,” he continued. Even though warnings have been issued, according to Syafrin, residents still park on the main road. Therefore, Dishub DKI Jakarta takes action by towing and removing the valve cores from car tyres to provide a deterrent effect. Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Agency (Sudinhub), Agung Hehakaya, said the car deflation incident in the Monas area occurred on Sunday (22/3/2025). The enforcement action was carried out through a joint operation between Dishub DKI and the Central Jakarta Sudinhub. “The incident happened around 2:00 PM WIB. Approximately 20 cars had their tyres deflated,” Agung said when confirmed by Kompas.com.
