Viral Incident: Man in Sidoarjo Desecrates Grave of Figure Allegedly a Wali, Perpetrator Under Examination

A man in Sidoarjo has dismantled the grave of Waliyullah Djiro Joyo Ulomo in the Pasar Wonocolo area, Taman Subdistrict, Sidoarjo. The case is now being handled by the police. The waliyullah’s grave is located on Jalan Raya Stasiun Sepanjang. The perpetrator, initialled SA (45), is a resident of Kalijaten, Taman Subdistrict. The Taman Police Sector Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, Iptu Adri Tri Sasongko, confirmed the incident. Police responded to the location after receiving reports from the public following its virality on social media. “Yes, we are following up on a public complaint regarding the alleged grave desecration in the Pasar Wonocolo area that went viral on social media,” Adri stated, as quoted by detikJatim on Monday (20/4/2026). From the on-site inspection, police found damage to the grave structure. Several materials such as wood and debris from the dismantling have been secured as evidence. Based on witness statements, the desecration was carried out by SA gradually from Wednesday (15/4) around 10:00 PM WIB until Friday (17/4/2026). Police have taken a statement from the suspected perpetrator. From the interrogation, SA admitted to the dismantling because he believed the grave was fake. “He claimed to have received information from his parents that the grave was man-made and contained a Holy Quran and toy bones,” Adri explained.
