Viral Illegal Dump in Cilincing: Governor Pram Demands Operator Be Stopped and Sanctioned

A large illegal waste dump in Cilincing, North Jakarta, has drawn sharp public criticism after images and videos of the sprawling site circulated on social media. The dump, located on Jalan Reformasi, has caused significant distress among local residents, with footage showing large trucks unloading waste at the illegal facility. The accumulated rubbish has reached considerable height and breadth, raising public concerns over health hazards and environmental damage.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed he has received reports about the site and demanded that the private operator managing the dump be stopped and sanctioned. ‘I have also received a report that the illegal dump in Nagrak, Cilincing, is managed by a private party. It has no connection to the DKI Jakarta government,’ Pramono said at City Hall on Tuesday.

The governor explained that the waste originates from the hotel, restaurant, and café sector. He noted that the operator was paid to transport the waste but instead disposed of it illegally. ‘The waste is being dumped at a site belonging to PT Granito and the late Ibu Yusi,’ he said.

Pramono has instructed the relevant regional apparatus organisations to take firm action against those responsible. He also requested that the operator’s activities be halted and that they face sanctions. ‘As I have said, I have asked the Communication and Information Agency and related officials to publicly announce whoever is responsible for this,’ he stated. He emphasised that the location is not an official waste disposal site owned by the Jakarta provincial government and that the administration will take steps against the operator for the violation.
