Viral: High School Student in Purwakarta Flashes Middle Finger at Teacher

A viral video shows students from SMAN 1 Purwakarta flashing the middle finger at their teacher after class. As a result of this action, the students have been sanctioned with a 19-day suspension.

According to detikJabar, the students were recorded mocking and making the middle finger gesture towards the teacher. The incident is said to have been carried out by nine Year 11 IPS students on Thursday (16/4).

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi immediately responded to the incident. He expressed his concern and has received a complete report from the Education Office regarding the chronology of the incident.

Dedi stated that the parents of the students have been called to the school. The school itself has taken initial steps by imposing a 19-day suspension sanction on the involved students. During that period, the students are required to undergo guidance at home.

“Based on the information, the parents of the child have been called to the school and cried, feeling regretful about their child’s actions,” said Dedi on Friday (18/4/2026).

“Furthermore, the school has given a 19-day suspension. The child receives guidance at home,” he continued.

However, Dedi assessed that the sanction may not necessarily be the best solution in shaping the students’ character. He instead proposed a more educational form of punishment that has a direct impact on behavioural change.

“But I suggest that the child is not suspended for 19 days. This is a suggestion, hopefully it can be used. But give punishment of cleaning the schoolyard, sweeping every day, and cleaning the toilet,” he emphasised.
