Viral Garage Built on Pavement in Bandung's Jalan Ambon Demolished by Public Order Agency

A garage constructed on a pavement along Jalan Ambon in Bandung, West Java, has been demolished by Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers after images of the structure went viral. On Sunday morning, the building, which resembled a warehouse but was reportedly used as a car park, stood conspicuously on the pedestrian walkway. Officers moved in to dismantle the structure, which collapsed after being struck with hammers. “After we received direct instructions from the Head of Satpol PP and the Mayor, we carried out the demolition,” said Krismarjadi, Head of Public Order and Community Protection at Bandung City Satpol PP, on Sunday. He stated that regardless of the rationale, the garage breached pavement regulations. Moreover, the structure had covered a water drainage channel, potentially increasing the risk of flooding. “It turns out, based on information from the local district, this building was constructed by the local Rukun Warga to serve as a garage for a Triseda. The Triseda was originally provided by the government, and we received information several times that the Triseda was going missing. So it was then built,” he explained. “But this location is also inappropriate. It is directly over a drainage channel. Initially, we wanted the Rukun Warga to demolish it themselves. However, it turned out they asked for more time, and so on. Therefore, we are now carrying out a forced demolition,” he concluded.
