A female foreign national went on a rampage as residents were holding a communal Quran recitation (tadarusan) on the first night of Ramadan in Gili Trawangan hamlet, Gili Indah village, Pemenang district, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The incident went viral on social media. The head of Gili Trawangan hamlet, Muhammad Husni, said the woman felt disturbed by the sound of the Quran recitation.

"What she took issue with was the recitation activity, because she was disturbed by the sound of the speaker," he said, as reported by detikBali on Thursday (19 February).

The woman was recorded shouting in front of one of the prayer halls whilst residents were reciting the Quran using a loudspeaker.

According to Husni, the woman then entered the prayer hall to stop the residents' activity. She even damaged the microphone being used for the recitation.

"Eventually she came to the prayer hall, then immediately started raging and destroyed the microphone and everything else," he said.

A confrontation was unavoidable. The foreign woman became embroiled in a verbal altercation with residents. During the incident, one resident sustained scratch wounds.

"One resident was even injured. She scratched someone, because they were defending themselves. One of the community leaders at the prayer hall was even knocked to the ground," Husni said.

Following the incident, the woman returned to the villa where she was staying, approximately 50 metres from the prayer hall.
