Viral Extortion of Jakarta-registered Car Driver in Bandung's Dago: KDM Responds

A video alleging extortion against a car with a Jakarta registration plate in Dago, Bandung, West Java, went viral on social media. The unsettling incident occurred on Jalan Ir H Djuanda Gang Dago Timur in Dago Village, Coblong District, Bandung, following Persib Bandung’s final match against Persijap Jepara on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

The circulating video shows a man stopping passing vehicles and demanding money from the driver. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi confirmed he has coordinated with the West Java Regional Police Chief to ensure swift handling of the case.

‘I have coordinated with the West Java Regional Police Chief regarding the extortion and gangsterism case in Bandung’s Dago area,’ said Governor Dedi Mulyadi, commonly known as KDM, on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

According to KDM, the perpetrators have been detained by police and are currently being processed at Coblong Police Station. ‘The suspects have been detained at Coblong Police Station,’ he stated.

KDM stressed that no one, whether West Java residents or visitors from outside the province, should engage in extortion. He noted that such acts cause public unease and damage West Java’s reputation as a safe destination for all.

‘And to all West Java residents, do not attempt extortion or gangsterism against anyone, whether they are from West Java or visitors from outside the province,’ he emphasised.
