Viral Extortion at Tiga Bridge Traffic Light in North Jakarta: 2 Suspects Arrested, 2 Still at Large

Two of the four extortion suspects at the traffic light in the Tiga Bridge area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, have been arrested by police. Their actions were previously recorded and circulated on social media. Meanwhile, the two other suspects are still being pursued. Penjaringan Metro Police Chief AKBP Agta Bhuwana Putra stated that the two secured suspects are initials YB (29) and AF (25). The two other suspects who have not been caught are initials E and K. “This morning we have carried out the arrest of two suspects out of a total of four people,” he said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Friday (27/3/2026). The suspects’ actions were recorded by another driver’s camera and then widely circulated on social media, one of which was uploaded by the Instagram account @warga.jakbar. In their actions, the suspects are suspected of targeting vehicles with out-of-area licence plates. They demanded a sum of money from drivers when the vehicles stopped. “Initially, the victim did give money amounting to Rp4,000. However, the perpetrators took other money on the vehicle’s dashboard, around Rp12,500. So it’s like parking money that was on the dashboard,” Agta explained. In addition, the suspects also attempted to take the victim’s cigarettes but failed. “From their habits, it seems there is repeated action, but we are still investigating,” said Agta. To prevent similar incidents, the police will increase patrols in the area. “We have ordered members to intensively patrol, both day and night,” he said.
