Viral East Jakarta street vendor targeted with cow dung; victims urged to report to police

Police say: We have directed kiosk owners to file a report,’ said Pasar Rebo Police Chief, Comm. I Wayan Wijaya, on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

He said Pasar Rebo Police Station personnel had visited the location where cow dung was dumped at the PKL stalls in Kenanga, Kalisari, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, 19 May.

“The dung was dumped in front of a shopfront used by street traders,” he said.

“Although there has not yet been an official report, police are still examining statements from the owner regarding the alleged unpleasant act. The cow dung was dumped at two locations.

Wayan said the dumping occurred only on Tuesday, 19 May. He said the case had never happened before.

“There were two points of dumping (cow dung) as shown in the pictures. It was the first time it happened and only on that day. The situation is now under control,” he said.

Wayan said the cow dung was thrown in front of the shopfront. The shop itself was not the target. The stalls that were splashed with cow dung are usually used by PKL for selling vegetables and cakes in the mornings.

“It wasn’t the shop that was attacked, but the dung in front of the shop used by street vendors to sell,” said Wayan.

He added that authorities are still investigating the incident, including the perpetrator’s motive. The police are also looking for CCTV footage.

“Still under investigation; there is no CCTV there,” he added.

He said the PKL have resumed selling at the scene of the incident. “Already selling again,” he said.
