Viral Duco Painter Who Extorted Billboard Workers in Central Jakarta Arrested
A duco painter suspected of extorting billboard workers on Jalan Salemba Raya, Senen, Central Jakarta, has been arrested after the incident went viral on social media. The suspect, identified by the initials YM (43), was taken into custody by police.
According to accounts circulating on social media, several workers on a billboard installation project at the pedestrian bridge (JPO) of the Kramat Sentiong Transjakarta bus stop were extorted by the duco painter. The workers were asked for security money and parking fees.
The incident occurred on Sunday (14/6) at 10.29 p.m. Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Salemba Raya, Senen, Central Jakarta. According to the suspect’s statement, it began when an open-bed black pickup truck was parked to unload and install a banner belonging to Pegadaian.
Senen Police Chief Kompol Widodo Saputro stated that the suspect, a duco painter working on the side of Jalan Kramat Raya, confronted the billboard workers and demanded they move the pickup truck because it was obstructing his workspace.
The suspect has been detained at Senen Police Station, and police are continuing their investigation into the case.
