Viral Double Parking Payment at Blok M Square Leads to Crackdown on 10 Illegal Parking Attendants
A video went viral on social media showing a resident protesting illegal parking fees that required paying twice at Blok M Square. The Parking Management Unit of the South Jakarta Transportation Department has now installed banners prohibiting such extortion.
“We have urged parking managers to install socialisation banners banning payments of parking fees to illegal parking attendants,” said Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Department, Bernad Oktavianus Pasaribu, when contacted in Jakarta, as reported by Antara news agency on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Bernad stated that in the enforcement action, they collaborated with the Civil Service Police (Satpol PP) and the Parking Management Unit of the South Jakarta Transportation Department to conduct monitoring and supervision aimed at preventing illegal parking practices. Eight banners prohibiting illegal parking fees were placed around the Blok M Square area.
“Best Parking has followed up on the directive by installing socialisation banners prohibiting visitors from giving parking fees to illegal parking attendants,” he said.
His side has also taken action against 10 illegal parking attendants at the Blok M Square car park following the viral video.
“There are 10 illegal parking attendants who have been registered,” he said.
Bernad mentioned that the enforcement was carried out on Tuesday (31/3) afternoon at 17:00 WIB. In the action, they collaborated with Satpol PP and the Parking Management Unit of Blok M Square.
A total of 10 illegal parking attendants were regulated and asked to make a statement letter not to return to collecting illegal fees. They are initialled MU, S, R, MRB, SA, MI, JS, D, IN, and AF.
Meanwhile, Head of the South Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit, Nanto Dwi Subekti, said this regulation is a follow-up to public complaints regarding double parking fee practices in the area.
“They collect parking money, even though parking is only charged once officially using a ticket,” said Nanto.
The 10 illegal parking attendants who were secured were given sanctions in the form of examination reports (BAP) by the Parking Management Unit of the Transportation Department.
“If they repeat it, they will face heavier sanctions,” he said.
In addition to regulating illegal parking attendants, Nanto continued, officers also took action against seven street vendors (PKL) who were trading out of place. Visitors to Blok M Square are urged to only pay parking once at the exit and to park vehicles officially as provided by the management.
