Viral Denpasar Petrol Station Attendant Accused of Cheating Customer, Immediately Dismissed
A customer at petrol station 54.801.42 on Jalan Tukad Yeh Aya, Denpasar, Bali, went viral on social media after claiming he was cheated while filling up with fuel. The attendant responsible for the alleged deception was immediately dismissed.
A circulating video shows the customer initially suspicious about the amount of fuel in his motorcycle. The customer then confirmed with the attendant regarding the Rp50,000 fuel purchase because the fuel gauge had only risen by two bars.
“I checked again after filling up and asked, ‘Sir, are you sure Rp50,000 has been filled?’ He answered that it was correct, that Rp50,000 had been filled. I checked again and asked the same thing twice,” the customer wrote in the post.
The customer then said he intended to report the incident to the petrol station office. While in front of the office, the attendant who served him allegedly admitted that the fuel actually filled was only worth Rp30,000.
“To cut a long story short, I went to the office intending to make a report. The man who served me was actually frightened and nervous. He suddenly said that after checking the receipt, it turned out Rp30,000 had been filled, not Rp50,000, and Rp20,000 was returned,” he wrote.
The manager of the Tukad Yeh Aya petrol station, Poerwo Roesfandi, said he had interrogated the attendant concerned. According to the attendant’s admission, there was no fraud in the fuel filling, but rather he simply forgot to give Rp20,000 in change to the customer.
“According to the operator I interrogated, the person actually purchased Rp30,000 worth with a Rp50,000 note,” said Poerwo when met at the Tukad Yeh Aya petrol station on Friday (21/8/2026).
“After he filled up, he left. He forgot the Rp20,000 change. Then he came back here to collect the change. Yes, as in the video, it was returned by the operator,” Poerwo continued.
Regarding the vehicle’s fuel indicator which was said to have only risen by two bars, Poerwo stressed that this condition cannot be used as a benchmark for the amount of fuel filled because it depends on the condition of the vehicle’s tank.
“We don’t know the condition of the motorcycle tank. There are some on reserve that are already in the red, but it’s not actually completely empty. There may still be some fuel left. If you fill Rp10,000, some will immediately rise by two bars, while others are truly at the very bottom, we just don’t know,” Poerwo explained.
Poerwo revealed that the attendant had only been working for about two months. The petrol station owner then imposed strict sanctions by dismissing the attendant on Thursday (20/8/2026).
“We gave him a termination letter because the owner asked for it, firm action to remove him immediately,” Poerwo explained.
