VIVA – The actions of a convoy led by former Indonesian House of Representatives member from PDIP, Arteria Dahlan, which stopped and posed for photos at the extreme Panorama 1 bend of Sitinjau Lauik in Padang City, West Sumatra, went viral and drew public attention.

The incident even led to the examination of three police personnel who were providing escort by the Propam unit of the West Sumatra Regional Police.

In the widely circulated video on social media, which sparked criticism from the public, a convoy of vehicles with police escort cars can be seen stopping right in the middle of the steep and dangerous uphill route.

Several people from the convoy appeared to get out of their vehicles to take photos in the middle of the road at the extreme Sitinjau Lauik bend, while other vehicles were forced to queue on the slope waiting for the PDIP politician’s convoy to finish taking photos.

Netizens regretted the actions of the former official, which were deemed to disrupt the safety and smooth flow of other road users. This is considering that the Panorama 1 Sitinjau Lauik slope and bend is a route frequently traversed by heavy vehicles and prone to accidents.

The police confirmed the occurrence of the incident. The event took place on 6 March. The police assessed that there was a suspected violation of standard operating procedures (SOP) for escorts in this incident.

Three personnel from the Solok City Police Traffic Unit who were tasked with escorting the convoy are now being examined by Propam. The examination is being conducted to determine if there were any violations in the execution of escort duties.

“Our leadership has already conveyed it, and feedback has also been provided that an examination has been carried out by the Propam Section, and it has been reported to the Provincial Police Propam,” said the Head of Traffic Enforcement of the West Sumatra Police Traffic Directorate, AKBP Andis Anshori, on Monday, 13 April 2026.

AKBP Andis assured that the Propam unit is still examining the three police officers involved in the escort and checking the administrative completeness related to the escort conducted.

If violations are proven, the three personnel could be subject to sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations.

“For now, we are taking statements first, complete statements, the chronology of how it happened, from the journey to the destination. From the statements, it can then be concluded whether it warrants discipline or just a reprimand,” he said.
