Viral Confession: BEM FH UBK Chair Admits Receiving Money After Demonstration
Social media has been shaken by a viral video clip featuring Muhammad Abdimaludin, the Chairman of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Law at Bung Karno University (UBK), admitting to receiving a sum of money during the ‘Tata Ulang Indonesia’ protest on Monday, 15 June 2026.
In the viral footage, Abdi admitted before the UBK academic community that he accepted money to ensure the crowd under his command did not proceed to demonstrate in the Patung Kuda area, Central Jakarta. “Regarding the issue being discussed, concerning that money, I did indeed receive it,” Abdi stated in the footage viewed by Tempo from the Instagram account @marhaenpress on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
He did not specify the total amount of money received, but noted that the cash he received amounted to approximately 20 per cent of the promised total. He continued by stating that the money had been used for personal needs and was also distributed to UBK alumni, members of the BEM FH UBK management, and the management of the UBK Faculty of Economics Student Union.
“Rp 2.5 million to two alumni, Rp 2 million to my Deputy, 2 million to Mubarak, and 2 million to BEM FE UBK,” he said.
In his statement, Abdi claimed the money was provided through a police officer he knew via a UBK alumnus. The money was intended to prevent the protesters under Abdi’s command from moving towards the Patung Kuda area. Additionally, students were asked to participate in a closed mediation session with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Tempo has attempted to contact Abdi Maludin and the Chairman of BEM FISIP UBK, Kurnia Arya Satya, for further clarification regarding the alleged receipt of funds during the 15 June demonstration. However, as of the time of publication, attempts to reach both individuals via message and telephone have not received a response. Tempo also contacted the Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, but has yet to receive a reply.
As previously reported, UBK students held the ‘Tata Ulang Indonesia’ action on Monday, 15 June 2026. The crowd moved from the UBK campus in Cikini towards the Patung Kuda area, where they initially clashed with police near the Tugu Tani area.
Following the confrontation, protest leaders were requested to meet with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. A total of 15 student representatives visited Gibran’s office and conducted a closed mediation for 60 minutes. The topics discussed included the controversy surrounding the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) project and the Merah Putih Village Cooperative.
“The Vice President noted our points of demand, including the evaluation and improvement of all forms of irregularities in the country today, such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) and the Merah Putih Village Cooperative,” Abdi said after the mediation at the Vice Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 15 June 2026.
He subsequently asserted that protests would continue if their demands were not met. “If our demands are not met within 5x24 hours after the meeting, we will take to the streets with an even larger number,” Abdi stated on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.
