Viral Commuter Line Altercation Over Umbrella, KAI Reminds Passengers of Rules
Viral video footage shows a disturbance occurring in a carriage of the Jakarta Kota-Bogor electric commuter line (KRL). The altercation, triggered by an umbrella placed on a handgrip, ended with a female passenger being removed from the train.
In the circulating video, two internal security officers (PKD) are seen pulling the female passenger out. The woman resisted and refused to be taken off, screaming hysterically.
“Help me, hold my umbrella, my umbrella is left behind, sir,” the woman shouted, as seen in the viral footage on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
According to the circulating narrative, the commotion began when officers reprimanded the passenger for storing an umbrella on the handgrip. However, the passenger refused, leading to a verbal altercation with the officers.
The narrative also mentioned that the passenger had struck an officer. The situation escalated until the officers eventually removed the woman from the train.
Responding to the viral video on social media, KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan explained that the incident occurred on Monday (15/6). Leza stated that security officers on the Commuter Line took action against a user who was disrupting order on Commuter Line train No. 1330 serving the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route.
Initially, officers conducting a routine patrol inside the train found a user not complying with regulations and subsequently provided education and an appeal to the passenger concerned.
“The action was taken after officers gave an appeal regarding the rules of conduct inside the train,” Leza said in a statement.
Officers then gave a persuasive appeal to the user. However, the process triggered a response that caused a commotion, potentially disturbing the comfort of other users on the Commuter Line.
“To maintain travel comfort, officers then carried out handling according to procedure by removing the passenger at the nearest station for further inspection and guidance by station security personnel,” he added.
After being given an explanation regarding the rules and regulations applicable within the Commuter Line environment, the situation was resolved amicably and the passenger was allowed to continue her journey using the next Commuter Line service to her destination station.
“KAI Commuter always prioritises comfort in every handling of users. However, all users are also expected to comply with applicable regulations and respect one another to create a safe, comfortable, and orderly journey for all,” Leza concluded.
