Viral Clash Between Danrem Pamungkas and Marshal After Aide Denied Entry to Marathon Track

A video showing Brigadier General Yuniar Dwi Hantono, Commander of Korem 072/Pamungkas, forcibly pulling his aide into a marathon track in Yogyakarta has gone viral on social media. The 25-second video, widely circulated across various platforms, shows a man identified as the Danrem’s aide being pulled out of the running track by a marshal because he was not wearing a BIB number or chest number proving race participation. Shortly afterwards, Yuniar, who was running, appeared and forcibly pulled his aide back into the race. A tug-of-war ensued between the marshal and the Danrem, with the Danrem pointing at the marshal as he again pulled the aide off the track.

"At the Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2026 event, a person without a bib number was asked to leave the track by committee officials. Not long after, a runner forced that person to re-enter the track. Respect for the committee," read a post from the X account @txtruangpodcast that uploaded the video.

When asked for confirmation, Head of Public Relations for Korem 072/Pamungkas, Infantry Major Suwito, confirmed the incident, stating the matter had been resolved amicably. "It was just a misunderstanding, and both parties have forgiven each other," Suwito explained.

In a written statement, Suwito detailed the chronology of the event. "Brigadier General Yuniar Dwi Hantono, along with his wife, one child, and one aide, participated in the activity as registered participants using four general tickets they owned and were officially registered like other participants," Suwito stated. "Based on the explanation obtained, the aide accompanying the Danrem had also been participating from the start using a participant number (BIB). However, during the event, it is suspected that the participant number came off while on the crowded track, causing a misunderstanding during the check by officials."

Suwito said that after the incident, the organisers, event organiser, and Danrem 072/Pamungkas held direct communication and clarification. According to him, all parties understand that the incident was purely a technical issue on the ground and has been resolved properly. "We appreciate the professionalism of the committee and officials who carried out their duties according to procedure to maintain order during the event, while also respecting the organisers’ swift action in clarifying the matter so that no prolonged misunderstanding occurred in the public sphere," he said. "In principle, the relationship between Korem 072/Pamungkas and the event organisers remains good. We hope the public can view this incident proportionally and not link it to other matters inconsistent with the actual facts."
