Viral Bride Marries Without Guardian as Father Goes on Holiday
A bride has shared the heartbreaking story of her wedding, which took place without the presence of her biological guardian (wali nasab). The story was shared through photos and videos uploaded via the Instagram account @sindigndri_.
“#nikahtanpawali,” read the caption on the Instagram account @sindigndri_, as reported by Wolipop.
The marriage ceremony remained solemn despite the absence of the biological guardian, with the role fulfilled by a court-appointed guardian (wali hakim). Tears streamed down the faces of the bride and the relatives accompanying her.
The post from the Instagram account @sindigndri_ subsequently went viral. The wedding moment upload has been viewed more than 53,600 times. Netizens immediately flooded the comments section.
The bride in the viral video is Sindi Gandari, familiarly known as Cici, a 24-year-old woman from Bandung, West Java. Cici’s marriage without a biological guardian stems from her complex past.
Cici recounted that her parents divorced when she was still four months in the womb. Her mother and father had entered an early marriage without the blessing of her grandparents.
Since childhood, Cici grew up without knowing her biological father. She only discovered his existence by chance when she was in junior high school.
Although she tried to establish a relationship with her father secretly during her teenage years, Cici had to swallow deep disappointment when she planned to get married. Her father flatly refused to be her marriage guardian.
“I was completely devastated at that point. I was traumatised; every time someone got married, I didn’t want to see the marriage contract process. Because for me, being ‘given away’ by a father is one of the rights every daughter should receive, and I didn’t get to feel that,” Cici expressed with profound sadness.
Cici’s maternal family had actually tried hard to persuade and coax her father to at least attend and give his blessing. However, all those efforts came to nothing. Let alone attend as the guardian, the father even strictly forbade his name from being listed on the wedding invitation.
Cici’s sorrow peaked when the wedding day arrived. While she had to struggle to strengthen her heart on the bridal dais with the help of a court-appointed guardian, her father chose to go on holiday with his new family without offering a single word of congratulations.
“My father did not attend my wedding. Let alone attend, he didn’t even say congratulations; instead, he went on a trip with his new family. And until now, I have never met my father, even though his house is only a different neighbourhood unit (RT) away,” Cici explained.
