Viral Bandung Pavement Garage Finally Demolished by Authorities

A garage building erected on the pavement of Jalan Ambon in Bandung City, West Java, was finally dismantled by officers from the Bandung City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) on Sunday, 14 June 2026. The enforcement action came after the structure went viral on social media and drew public scrutiny. The warehouse-like building had previously attracted attention from residents because it stood on a public facility designated for pedestrians. Besides disrupting the function of the pavement, the structure was also said to have covered a water channel, potentially causing puddles during rain. Bandung City Satpol PP officers visited the site and carried out the demolition using a range of equipment. The enforcement process was marked by moments of tension between the building owner and the officers. Krismarjadi, Head of Public Order and Community Peace at the Bandung City Satpol PP, explained that the building had been made to store government-assisted three-wheeled vehicles which had frequently been stolen. ‘Officers stressed that this reason cannot be used as a justification because the location of the building was on top of a pavement and a water channel,’ Krismarjadi stated. According to him, before the forced demolition was carried out, the relevant party had been asked to dismantle the building independently. However, by the given deadline, that request had not been carried out. As a result, the Satpol PP took enforcement measures to restore the function of public facilities as they should be. ‘Enforcement of the rules is carried out to restore the function of public facilities for the community,’ he said. After being dismantled, the garage building that previously covered the pavement was razed to the ground. The Bandung City Government has emphasised that it will continue to carry out enforcement against buildings that violate regulations and disrupt public facilities. This step is taken to maintain order and comfort, as well as to ensure public facilities can be used by the community according to their designated purpose.
